After a year and a half playing pubs and bars in the South West of England, building performance skills and stagecraft. Show of Hands Live was released in 1992 prior to a series of concerts and festivals, headlining at Cambridge, Sidmouth, Glastonbury and Trowbridge. More albums followed and in 1996 Show of Hands booked and filled the Royal Albert Hall, London, a privately organised concert which fullfilled a dream.

Show of Hands continue to perform in Britain and abroad, Steve Knightley's songs are now being sung by a whole new generation of musicians, and Phil Beer, a fine multi-instrumentalist contributes to the eight instruments used onstage, including Cuatro, Slide guitar, Cello-Mandolin, Fiddle, Mandolin and Concertina. The diversity and range of their material is astonishing.

Since 1991 Phil and Steve have driven more than half a million miles, played at over a thousand venues and made over 150 festival appearances. This relentless appetite for hard work and their dedication to presenting the highest quality in performance and production, has firmly established their reputation as two of England's finest acoustic musicians. Silver, Mike. @ The combination of his natural songwriting ability and remarkable guitar and vocal styles will leave you wanting to hear more and more of the man who has often been labelled "the singers singer" by his fellow artistes. But thats where the pigeon-holing stops.

He's equally at home whether tugging at your heart strings with a beautiful ballad or eliciting a reaction with a song of social conscience; stopping at all stations in-between. But thats not all. He seems to have a unique ability to write songs which cross-over many musical styles and thats no bad thing. Good music is good music, whatever the genre. Phil Beer from the duo "Show of Hands" wrapped it up nicely when he described Mike as "one of England's greatest singers and songwriters, he possesses that unique ability to sing and play the guitar in a way that the two things combine to form a sublime musical entity". - D Tong.

After 9 albums and some 17 years of touring the band decided to call it a day after the final album "Glint of Silver" in 1986 and subsequent tours culminating in a final gig which was at Bill and Andy Spence's "Old Songs" in Voorheesville NY. in April 1988.
