The Language of Birds - Fiona Davidson @
1998 CD/cassette WCMCCD017, Watercolour Music
Celtic Legend, Harp & Song.
Only three traditional songs, totalling 13.46, Tir Nan Og (gaelic), The Parting & The Garten Mother’s Lullaby. Very fine they are too, central, pure vocals with harp support. There is another piece by Fiona, Low Hang The Leaves, that could be described as a spoken song to a harp background, which she often uses to close a live performace, and indeed forms the last track on the CD.
The remaining 5 tracks are tales and legends, some with harp introductions or effects, some traditional, some by Fiona continuing the story tradition. The total running time is over 73 minutes so it’s good value for money. The stories cannot be listened to as background, full attention is required. Not that the songs do not benefit from full attention, they do.
