This covers English (and thus by historical connection) Irish, Scottish, Welsh and Islands folkmusic (UK/GB). It does not seek to cover American or Continental music except in so far as it directly relates to the core material.
The aim is to provide a comprehensive listing of folkmusic recordings (albums) and postal addresses to get them. The emphasis will be on material produced by individuals, bands and small companies, though since it is also hard to find out about even the more mainstream releases, these will also be included while space permits. The service is free, but the quality of information will depend much on the willingness of artistes and organizers to send in the information. Note, this information is provided on a best endeavours basis but no liability for errors or consequences can be accepted.
There is also a diary of events, What's On, Where to See Who, Where to Join In. This is an umbrella exercise coordinating existing local events pages. If anyone, with or without web space, wants to join the effort, please contact the editor.
Required information :- Artist (& Title), Date, Time and Place of event, including Postal Address (Grid Reference would be nice). Charges, contact name & telephone number (hours/time) and if available E-mail - with their full knowledge, should also be provided. If appropriate a contact phone for the venue and you should state if tickets are available in advance or on the door. You should also include your (the contributor) name, address, phone No, and if appropriate E-mail. This is required for the audit trail and will not be published (unless you are also the contact).
This is artist oriented, tour dates for instance, venue information may be more compact, but please try to give information so that venues can be included in the What's On section. Similarly make sure the recordings details are up to date. Required information:- Artist name( & tour name), list of one or more dates & venues. Contact name, address and phone number and if appropriate E-mail must be supplied but will only be published if so indicated. For bands, line up (eg duo trio) or at the editors discretion, names can be included, or links provided if you have 'band' web pages.
Required information:- As for What's On plus an indication of level and flavour. Don't forget the Grid Reference, its a good pointer for those on holiday or business. If a regular event (eg 2nd Thursday) indicate normal exceptions eg Christmas, Public Holidays, August etc.
Required information :- Title, Artist(s), Label name, Reference No.(s), Publication date, Either a contact address for orders with one off post inclusive price (to be updated or removed after 12months) and name for cheques, or distributors order details for national deals obtainable in good record shops. Band line up, guests, track lists (with authors). Note that any differences between CD's Cassettes etc must be noted. Brief biography notes (optional):- date and place of birth/formation. dates of death/disbanding where appropriate, if recordings mark special events, influences, musical style. Please also inform the editor when recordings are no longer available, and at that time the number produced, as a historical archive catalogue will be maintained even if this cannot be fitted on-line.
